About De Montfort University
De Montfort University (DMU) is a public university with roots going back to 1870, when it was founded as the Leicester School of Art. Over 150 years of growth and transformation later, the university gained full degree-awarding status in 1992. Today, DMU has approximately 27,000 full and part-time students and is organised into three faculties: Business and Law; Health and Life Sciences; and Technology, Arts, and Culture.
The university is located in Leicester, in the heart of England’s East Midlands, with its main campus right next to the city centre, giving students easy access to shops, cafes, and transport links. It is a career-focused university, ideal for students looking for practical, industry-relevant learning in a diverse and supportive environment.
Why De Montfort University for Indian Students?
For Indian students, DMU offers a compelling mix of academic quality, genuine affordability, and a city that feels remarkably familiar. Leicester is home to one of the biggest celebrations of Diwali outside of India, and an Eid festival open to the whole community, irrespective of faith, gender, or race. The cost of living in Leicester is notably lower than in London, making it one of the more budget-friendly cities for international students in the UK.
In addition, the city’s strong Indian community, availability of Indian food, cultural stores, and places of worship help students feel at home, making the overall transition to life in the UK smoother and more comfortable.
