About Newcastle University

Newcastle University is a public research university that is located in Newcastle upon Tyne, in the north east of England. Its origins trace back to 1834 with the establishment of the School of Medicine and Surgery, and the College of Physical Science, founded in 1871. These institutions merged over time to form King's College, before becoming the University of Newcastle upon Tyne following an Act of Parliament in 1963. Today, Newcastle University is a founding member of the Russell Group, the association of the UK's leading research-intensive universities.

The institution is organised into three academic faculties: the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Medical Sciences, and the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering. With a community of around 28,000 students from over 130 countries, the university operates across three campuses: its main 50-acre city-centre campus in Newcastle upon Tyne, and international campuses in Singapore and Malaysia.
