About Swansea University
Swansea University is a public research university located on the south coast of Wales, established in 1920 when its foundation stone was laid by King George V. It is the third largest university in Wales, with around 20,000 students from over 130 countries across two waterfront campuses. The historic Singleton Park Campus is set within mature parkland and botanical gardens overlooking Swansea Bay, and is home to the medical school, law school, arts and humanities, and health sciences. The modern £450 million Bay Campus sits directly on the beach to the east of the city and houses the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the School of Management, and a range of state-of-the-art research facilities. A regular bus service connects the two campuses, with a journey time of around 20 minutes.
Swansea has a strong focus on research-led teaching and real-world learning, with many undergraduate and postgraduate programmes featuring industry placements, research projects, and opportunities to work alongside academic staff on live research.
Why Swansea University for Indian Students?
Swansea is a genuinely affordable and welcoming option for Indian students who want a research-strong UK university in a beautiful coastal setting. Living costs in Swansea are well below those in London and most major UK cities. Both campuses are situated right on or beside the beach, which gives the city a relaxed quality of life that students from India consistently find easier to settle into compared to larger and more expensive UK cities.
Indian students can find a strong sense of community and support, with a thriving network of Indian students and staff that helps them feel at home from the very beginning. Dedicated assistance is available through a representative team in India for enquiries and applications, along with support from UKIBC to facilitate a smooth transition to studying abroad. Additionally, an active Indian society regularly organises events and cultural activities, creating a familiar, welcoming environment while offering opportunities to connect, celebrate, and build meaningful friendships.
