About University of East London
The University of East London, widely known as UEL, is a public university with roots going back to 1898, when the West Ham Technical Institute was established to serve the local community. It gained full university status in 1992 and today is home to over 40,000 students from more than 160 countries across three campuses: the Docklands Campus on the Royal Albert Dock waterfront, the Stratford Campus near the site of the 2012 London Olympic Games, and the Stratford Health Campus.
Building on its strong heritage, UEL is recognised for its career-focused and industry-connected approach to education. This practical approach ensures students gain real-world experience through applied learning and industry-relevant projects, helping them graduate with the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed for successful careers in a global workplace.
Why the University of East London for Indian Students?
For Indian students, UEL offers a genuinely career-focused London education in an affordable and accessible location. East London has undergone enormous investment since the 2012 Olympics and is now one of the most vibrant and fast-growing parts of the UK capital, with excellent transport links to Canary Wharf, the City, and the rest of London. UEL's location in this part of the city gives students access to major employers across finance, technology, health, creative industries, and logistics throughout their studies.
The university is known for being inclusive and supportive, with more than 160 nationalities represented on campus and a strong track record of helping international students succeed. Entry requirements are accessible for students from Indian school and university boards, and the admissions team provides specific guidance for applicants from India. A range of scholarships is available for eligible international students, and a free orientation programme before the start of term helps new students settle in quickly.
