About University of Kent
The University of Kent is a public research university established in 1965, when it received its Royal Charter and opened its doors to the first 500 students. Known as the UK's European University, Kent has built its identity around global thinking, international connections, and an open, interdisciplinary approach to education. The university has two main campuses in the UK, with the Canterbury Campus spread across 300 acres of parkland near the historic city of Canterbury and the Medway Campus located in Chatham Maritime, around 30 miles away. Both UK campuses are less than an hour from London by train. The university also offers study centres and partnerships in international cities, including Brussels, Paris, Athens, and Rome.
In September 2025, the University of Kent announced plans to merge with the University of Greenwich, with degrees continuing to be awarded under the Kent or Greenwich name as the merger progresses. Currently, Kent is home to over 19,000 students from more than 150 countries, and has built a strong reputation for research-led teaching, global academic connections, and outstanding student support.
Why the University of Kent for Indian Students?
For Indian students, the University of Kent offers a research-active, internationally connected UK degree in a setting that combines a beautiful, historic city with quick and convenient access to London. Canterbury is a UNESCO World Heritage City, home to a 1,400-year-old cathedral, medieval streets, and a thriving student social scene. Living costs in Canterbury are significantly lower than in central London, while the quality of education and the value of a Kent degree are well recognised by employers in the UK and internationally.
The university provides a range of scholarships for international students, including the Kent International Scholarship (UG) worth £5,000 for eligible undergraduate students. Students from India can find a well-established Indian Society on campus that organises Holi, Diwali, and Bollywood events throughout the year.
