When Do PhD Programmes Start in the UK?
Most UK universities welcome PhD students in September or October. These are the main intakes because they match the academic calendar and the usual timetable for research funding. Students also benefit from induction activities, research training, and support services from the start.
Some universities provide additional PhD entry points in January or February. These options are often available for international students or for selected research projects.
