Why Nigerian Students Choose the UK September Intake

There is a reason most Nigerian students target September. It is the intake with the widest course selection, the highest number of participating universities, and the most scholarship opportunities of the three UK entry points. Getting the timing and preparation right is what separates a smooth process from a stressful one.

The Widest Choice of Courses and Universities

September gives Nigerian students access to the full range of UK undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at almost every university in the country.

The Best Time to Apply for Scholarships

Most UK scholarships, including the Chevening, Commonwealth, GREAT Scholarships, and university-specific awards, are tied to the September intake. Nigerian students who target September have the strongest chance of securing funding support.

A Full Campus Experience

Starting in September means arriving when everything is in full swing: fresher events, orientation, student societies, accommodation, and the kind of social experience.

When Do September Intake Classes Begin in the UK?

September intake classes in the UK usually begin between mid-September and early October, with most universities starting in the third or fourth week of September. Some institutions, particularly those running foundation or pre-sessional programmes, may bring students in as early as late August for preparation weeks before the main term starts.

Most universities hold orientation and welcome events in the days before lectures begin, which gives new international students time to register, find their way around campus, and meet other students before the academic workload kicks in.

Short Note:

Nigerian students should plan to arrive at least one week before the course start date to sort out accommodation, register with a GP, open a bank account, and settle in without rushing.

What Is the CAS Deadline for the UK September Intake?

For the September entry, the CAS is generally given between May and August, after a student has accepted their offer, met all academic conditions, and paid the required tuition deposit.

This gives Nigerian students a reasonable time to get the visa process moving, but it still requires everything else to be ready the moment the CAS arrives.

Once the CAS is received, the student visa application goes in immediately. Nigerian students must also book a TB test at an IOM-approved clinic before the application can be submitted, and standard visa processing takes three to four weeks.

Short Note:

Applying for the visa between May and June, rather than waiting until July or August, is strongly recommended, as the July to August period is the busiest time for UK visa applications and processing times can be extended.

Documents Nigerian Students Need to Apply for the UK September Intake

September is the most competitive intake in the UK, which means there is less room for incomplete paperwork. Two sets of documents are needed, one for the university application. Having both the student visa and the other document ready well before they are actually needed is very important.

  • Degree certificate and transcript for postgraduate entry
  • Foundation Year certificate and transcript, where applicable
  • English language test results such as IELTS

How Can Aims Education Help Nigerian Students Apply for the September Intake?

September is the most competitive of all intakes in the UK, and the difference between a successful application and a rejected one comes down to preparation, timing, and how well a personal statement or statement of purpose is written. Nigerian students who apply late, submit weak personal statements, or miss scholarship deadlines regularly lose places they were qualified for. Aims Education solves this problem by helping students identify suitable universities and courses, managing the full application process from start to submission, and ensuring every deadline, from the UCAS deadline to the scholarship closing date to the CAS and visa steps, is completed without anything falling through.
